Descrizione
Growing up on a farm in Mantua, Fred Ahrens fostered an appreciation for fine-quality, super fresh meats. He founded Maple Country Meats to return to his roots and offer the community a meat shop option for locally sourced meats to suit people who want to know where their food comes from.
Just like an old-fashioned butcher, Fred goes to the farms himself and hand-selects the animals to assure the best quality of meats, including beef, pork, lamb, goat, chicken, ground beef, hot dogs and sausage, which are all antibiotic-free, steroid-free, hormone-free and all-natural. He makes sure the meat is hung for 30 days to naturally tenderize the final product, which is never run through a tenderizer or processor. Following butcher shop protocol, as much of the animal is used as possible, with tougher cuts going to make sausage, and even the bones sold as dog treats.
Since opening in 2023, the shop has evolved to become a beloved neighborhood grocery store, serving produce in the summer months, and frozen foods, too. Fred and his staff of butchers have also expanded into their warehouse facility to do the meat processing onsite.
They sell a wide variety of from-scratch sauces and rubs, salsas and gourmet items, as well as a slew of maple syrup products from its sister company, Richards Maple Products. People love the from-the-farm freshness of organic, genetically sourced A2/A2 milk, which can be tolerated by lactose-sensitive people. They even offer all-natural pet food made from raw meat that’s loaded with nutrition.
Ready-made meals and lunches, including burgers, brats and ribs with a side of pasta salad, have made this food emporium a welcome source of meals.
From May thru November they throw a community Farmers Markets on Thursdays with fresh produce and meats, food trucks, live music and vendors selling artisan goods.
Though prime cuts of meat are expensive, you’ll find the costs here are the same or even less than a traditional grocery store.
